This week's free stuff...

This one is the first in a series, so they're probably offering it for free to entice you to buy the others: Take One (Above the Line Series #1)

Same idea here...the author, Julie Lessman, has a bunch of other books. Historical romance fiction. A Passion Most Pure

This one's R-rated, complete with hot naked man on cover: Male Call

I just finished reading Primitive, by Mark Nykanen, which is no longer free. It was pretty interesting, although not really my thing.

Sushi for One Antoher first in a series book, definite chick lit.

That's it for now. Happy reading!

Yuck!

So disappointed in Booth's Sister. I only got through about 3% and had to stop reading. What a letdown!

A Couple of Additions

Wow, some of the things I posted only a few days ago are no longer free and are back to full price. Gotta move fast on these!

The Someday List, by Stacy Hawkins Adams Not my kind of thing, but maybe yours?

Moonstone, by Marilee Brothers Another supernatural teenager story.

Not free, but a pretty good read at $1.99: The No. 1 Ladies Detective Agency

I never knew Harlequin had branched out from Romance into mystery: Crime Scene at Cardwell Ranch

So much free stuff added this week!!!

Primitive by Mark Nykanen This is a thriller. It's getting really good reviews. I've downloaded but haven't read yet.

You Can't Stop Me, by Matthew Clemens Another thriller.

Bride Most Begrudging, by Deeanne Gist Historical romance novel. This is the author's first novel, while her more recent ones are available for purchase.

Booth's Sister, by Jane Singer I can't wait to read this one--it looks really good. A fictional tale of the sister of Abraham Lincoln's killer.

Operation Sheba, by Misty Evans Okay, I wasn't going to download this one, but then the reviews really caught me. So this spy/romance is on my reading list too now.

Demonfire, by Kate Douglas Not my thing, paranormal romance blah blah.

Saving Sailor, Renee Riva Sweet sounding story about a young kid and her dog in the summertime. Maybe religious, not sure yet.

Petals from the Sky Sounds really good, about a Chinese girl who is a Buddhist nun and ends up in Manhattan.

As Young As We Feel, by Melody Carlson Four childhood friends meet at a high school reunion 47 years later.

Dead Witch Walking (The Hollows Book One) So, so, so not my thing!

Battle of the Network Zombies Ditto this one.

Cool Like That: A So For Real Novel I think this is teen reading material.

Amberville Wow, weird! The characters are all stuffed animals. That would be okay, but that's all the book really has going for it. I read about 5 pages and then deleted it.

My Name is Russell Fink Sorry, this one isn't free anymore.

The Almost True Story of Ryan Fisher This one isn't free anymore either.

Primary Victim This isn't free, but only 99 cents. Sounds like a really interesting crime thriller.

Amsterdam 2012 Ditto this one on the price. About WWIII between Islams and Christians

What else is free today?

Here are some other free books that are available today at Amazon:

The Apothecary's Daughter by Julie Klassen
I haven't read this one yet, but it's next in line. [update: This was a very entertaining read]

Talk of the Town by Lisa Wingate
I'm in the middle of this one. It's really corny, with characters that are such stereotypes. I wouldn't pay to read this.

Love Yourself and Let the Other Person Have it Your Way
I didn't download this one--not my kind of thing.

More Blood, More Sweat and Another Cup of Tea
I haven't read it yet and I'm not sure, because I think it's a sequel. [update: I read a few pages and it just wasn't interesting at all. A paramedic recounting his experiences in blog-like format]

Fang

The Equivoque Principle This looks good, but a little weird. Not getting great reviews. [update: I'm in the middle of this one right now and it's actually a pretty good read]

Faking It by Elisa Lorello This one isn't free anymore, but it's still only 99 cents. I read it while it was free and actually really enjoyed it. Inspiring read about a woman learning self-acceptance and self-love. I even bought the sequel for another 99 cents! Ordinary World

Irresistable Forces I haven't downloaded this one...I'm not that into trashy romances anymore.

His Lady Mistress Another trashy romance book. I downloaded this one though, and haven't read it yet.

Star Wars Tribe Not my thing, but there are a bunch of Star Wars books for free, including this one.

Books with dead authors

So, copyright laws are pretty complicated and they've changed a lot and vary from country to country. In the US, anything published before 1923 no longer has a copyright, so it's in the public domain now. Most works published between 1923 and 1963 are also in the public domain, because their copyright had to be renewed in its 28th year and most authors didn't renew. Most books written after 1964 are still copyrighted.

Anyway, that means there's a ton of public domain books out there for free. Some of them are those things you were forced to read in high school, but some are really good. I'm working on a list here.
